Play Therapy is an evidence-based treatment primarily for children aged 3 to 12 years old. It can also be highly beneficial for older children and adults; for instance, we use sand trays and figures to explore inner worlds in a safe, non-directive environment.
Play: The Child’s Language
For young children, toys serve as words and play as their language. This therapeutic method is facilitated by a trained mental health professional who uses toys, role-playing, and imaginative exercises to support the journey.
In a therapeutic setting, the play room is a safe, versatile space adapted to the unique needs of each client. Through play, individuals can:
- Communicate emotions and thoughts without needing direct verbalization.
- Foster social and developmental growth.
- Engage in experiential learning, new activities, and risk-taking.
- Work through trial and error, all while enjoying the process.
Effective for a Wide Range of Challenges
Play therapy is proven effective in helping children, adolescents, and adults address emotional, social, and behavioral challenges, including:
- Emotional Regulation (anxiety, low mood)
- Relational Issues (peer and family struggles)
- Trauma
- Grief, Separation, or Loss
- Self-Esteem and Confidence
The Play Therapy Room
Our rooms are intentionally stocked with a curated selection of toys and creative arts materials, including sand trays, miniature objects, puppets, art supplies, and make-believe props.
Symbolic play creates a safe, less intimidating space. By externalizing their experiences through a chosen object or toy, children can process difficult emotions and narratives without being overwhelmed.
